JOB OVERVIEW
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic educator capable of functioning as School Librarian and Substitute Teacher to join our amazing staff. In this role, you will play a vital role in fostering a love of reading and providing students with access to a wide range of educational resources. As Substitute Teacher you will be responsible for ensuring a safe and engaging learning environment in the absence of regular classroom teachers. This role requires flexibility, strong interpersonal skills, and a passion for fostering the academic and social development of young learners. The position may require supporting other departments as required by the HoS.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Library Management
- Organize and maintain the school library, ensuring a welcoming and conducive learning environment.
- Develop and implement library policies and procedures, in accordance with the school's guidelines.
- Manage the acquisition, organization, cataloging, and inventory of library materials, including books, periodicals, digital resources, and other educational materials.
- Utilize library software systems to track and manage library resources efficiently.
- Reader Advisory and Reference Services
- Assist students and teachers in finding appropriate reading materials, both for educational and recreational purposes.
- Provide guidance and recommendations on age-appropriate books, authors, and genres.
- Support students in conducting research and locating relevant information using various resources, including books and online databases.
Curriculum Support
- Collaborate with teachers to integrate library resources and activities into the curriculum, supporting classroom instruction and promoting information literacy skills.
- Plan and deliver engaging library programs and activities, such as book clubs, reading challenges, storytelling sessions, and library orientations.
- Develop and maintain thematic displays and exhibits to highlight relevant topics and engage students' interest.
Technology Integration
- Stay up to date with technological advancements in library management and information retrieval systems.
- Assist students and staff in effectively utilizing digital resources, e-books, and online databases.
- Promote digital literacy and responsible use of technology among students.
Outreach and Promotion
- Collaborate with the school community to promote library services and resources.
- Conduct regular library orientations and presentations to students, teachers, and parents.
- Organize and participate in literacy events, book fairs, and other activities to encourage reading and engage the school community.
Substitute Teacher
- Classroom Management: Effectively manage and maintain a positive and productive classroom environment in accordance with the school's policies and procedures.
- Lesson Delivery: Implement lesson plans provided by absent teachers, ensuring the continuity of instruction and adhering to the established curriculum.
- Student Supervision: Monitor and supervise students to ensure their safety, well-being, and engagement in learning activities.
- Instructional Support: Provide assistance to students in understanding and completing assigned tasks, answering questions, and facilitating discussions as needed.
- Classroom Support: Assist with classroom setup, including organizing materials, preparing instructional aids, and maintaining a tidy and functional learning environment.
- Behavior Management: Employ appropriate behavior management strategies to address disruptive behavior and promote a positive and respectful classroom climate.Act as Teacher or Teacher’s Assistant or support other projects as assigned
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Library Science, Education, or a related field
- Experience working in a library or educational setting, preferably with elementary school-aged children.
- Familiar with library management systems and technology tools
- Minimum of three years as a Teacher or Teacher’s Assistant
- Classroom management experience with grade K-12
- Adaptability and flexibility to adjust to different grade levels, subject matters, and classroom environments.
- Knowledge of elementary school curriculum, instructional strategies, and classroom management techniques.
- Ability to follow lesson plans and maintain a structured learning environment.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills, with attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Passion for promoting literacy and a love for reading among students.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with colleagues.
